Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara Review

In preparation for the launch of their new product line, Marc Jacobs Beauty was kind enough to send me their latest mascara and primer to try out and give my review on!

Overall Thoughts

After testing out this mascara a couple of times, I decided that I really like it. The primer helps so much to amplify the effects of the mascara, and overall it was a pleasant experience. Even with just the primer I noticed the difference in how long my lashes looked, and the colour of the mascara itself really helped lengthen and add volume to my lashes.

I quite liked the packaging of the product, however I don’t think it’s the kind that would come with me travelling. Most of the mascara tubes I have and use frequently are quite slim, however these ones are actually quite thick. I was even worried that they wouldn’t fit in my makeup organizer!

Mascara Wand

One of the biggest differentiators between mascaras for me is honestly the wand applicator. The bristles can really make or break a mascara experience, and in this case I’m a little indifferent. They sure didn’t wow me away like the Bad Gal Bang! mascara from Benefit, but it also wasn’t the worst experience I’ve had with mascara.

Application & Wear

I didn’t have this mascara on for too long, so I can’t comment on the long-lastingness of it, however as for wearability it was pretty good. My eyes sometimes get sensitive to different products, but in this case I didn’t notice any eye irritation from the mascara.

In the realm of mascaras, I would classify this as a volumizing mascara. It did make my lashes longer, but the main difference was that they looked thicker than usual. This does mean, however, that the mascara is somewhat prone to clumping, but that might have also been human error on my part getting used to the applicator.

When it came time to get ready for bed and take my makeup off, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to remove the mascara. Some of my favourite products end up leaving massive black streaks on my face, especially the really dark and powerful mascaras, but this one was pretty easy to remove.

Note: I received this complimentary product from Influenster in exchange for a review. All thoughts represented are my own.
